Teacher Mon Louis has remained consistent and has persevered in ensuring that students of the Aux Lyon Combined School are well sensitized when it comes to environmental issues. These students have displayed good solid waste management practices which has resulted in yet another achievement for the school. The school can now boast a cadre of vibrant litter wardens. To date approximately twelve litter wardens monitor the waste management activities of students of the school prior to the commencement of school, during break periods and after the dismissal of school. Students identified littering are asked to pick up the litter. Those who do not comply are required to pay a fine of fifty (50) cents. Teacher Mon Louis holds fortnightly meetings to ensure that all litter wardens are continually trained and guided with respect to their responsibilities as litter wardens. The Authority provided support to the initiative through the sponsorship of the litter warden badges for students. The initiative, we believe is admirable and therefore commend the school for making proper waste management practices a part of the culture of the school and hope that other schools could emulate and of course tailor the initiative to meet their own needs.
